Mattia Tomat, Italian saxophonist with an international career, combines virtuosity, creativity, and artistic versatility.

Winner of prestigious competitions and trained under renowned saxophone masters, he excels both as a soloist and within ensemble settings.
A passionate artist dedicated to both classical and contemporary music.

Born in 1993, Mattia Tomat began studying the saxophone at the age of 17.

After obtaining his scientific high school diploma with the highest grade (100/100), he entered the Conservatorio Statale di Musica “Jacopo Tomadini” in Udine (Italy) in the class of Fabrizio Paoletti.

Education and degrees

During his bachelor’s degree, Mattia received two Erasmus+ scholarships:

➤ 2015-2016 – Advanced studies with Alfonso Padilla at the Conservatorio Superior de Música “Manuel Castillo” (Seville, Spain)

➤ 2016-2017 – Studies with Koryun Asatryan at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater (Munich, Germany)

In 2017, he graduated from the Udine Conservatory with the highest grade and honors.

He then pursued a Master’s degree in Saxophone at the Conservatorio “Girolamo Frescobaldi” in Ferrara in the class of Marco Gerboni, graduating with distinction in 2019.

That same year, he entered the CRR of Versailles and obtained his Advanced Diploma with highest honors in the class of Nicolas Arsenijevic.

He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree at the same institution. In 2022, he passed the Italian State Examination and obtained two Qualification Certificates for teaching saxophone.

Masterclasses and advanced training

Mattia has attended numerous masterclasses with internationally renowned saxophonists:

Vincent David, Jean-Marie Londeix, Alfonso Padilla, Nicolas Arsenijevic, Nikita Zimin, Jérôme Laran, Lars Mlekusch, Johan Thorell, as well as Italian pedagogues such as Alex Sebastianutto, the MAC Saxophone Quartet, Marco Gerboni, Mauro Ciaccio, Federico Mondelci, and Massimo Mazzoni.

Artistic career and collaborations

A versatile saxophonist, Mattia performs both as a soloist and within chamber ensembles and orchestras:

Furendo Quartet (soprano saxophone), with which he participated in several festivals including Eventosax (Velletri, Rome) and the 34th International Music Festival (Portogruaro)

Udine Conservatory Saxophone Ensemble: participation in the Euromusic Festivals in Vienna (2013, 2017) and Esslingen (2015)

➤ Collaborations with numerous orchestras: Orchestra Filarmonici Friulani, Udine Conservatory Wind Orchestra, Seville Conservatory Wind Orchestra, Accademia Sinfonica, Orchestra La Macia, Orchestra Alpe Adria, and Anbima Wind Orchestra.

Winner of several national and international competitions, Mattia Tomat has received:

1st Prize – International My Favourite Sax (Empoli)

2nd Prize – Riviera Etrusca International Competition

Laureate – Adolphe Sax Competition (Castelbuno, 2018)

2nd Prize – Crescendo Competition (Florence, 2017)

2nd Prize – 8th International Music Competition & Festival for Soloists and Chamber Music (Svirél, Slovenia, 2016)

Best Quartet – Eventosax International Competition (2015), leading to a solo performance with the Orchestra Internazionale di Roma

Semi-finalist – 1st Gran Canaria Sax Competition (2021)
